Fuentes de Rubielos and its surroundings
A serene land, waiting to be discovered
La Canterica sits in the heart of the Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre, a land of mountains, forests and small villages where nature still sets the rhythm of the seasons.
Just minutes from the house, paths, viewpoints and quiet corners wait to be discovered, in an authentic setting where every season reshapes the landscape and the light.
The village
Fuentes de Rubielos
With fewer than 150 inhabitants, Fuentes de Rubielos is a small village of medieval origin set deep in the Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre. A place that keeps its authenticity and the charm of simple things.
Its quiet streets, the fountains, the orchards and the paths that ring the village tell the story of a way of life bound to the land, the water and the turn of the seasons.
The absence of mass tourism lets you enjoy something ever harder to find: silence. A silence that leaves room to hear the water run, the birdsong and the wind in the trees.
It is a village to wander on foot and discover without haste, savouring corners that still hold the essence of another time.
The landscape
The Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre
Fuentes de Rubielos lies at the heart of the Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre, a land of mountains, forests and clean air.
Trails through pine woods, ravines, centuries-old holm oaks and small corners to discover are all part of a landscape that shifts through the year and offers a different way to enjoy the mountains on every visit.
Close by, the río Mijares brings freshness and green, especially through the summer months. And over it all stretches one of the cleanest skies in Europe, a privilege that is part of everyday life in this sierra.
The sky
One of the cleanest skies in Europe
At almost a thousand metres of altitude and far from the light pollution of the cities, the sky over Fuentes de Rubielos is clean and deep.
The show begins even before the first stars appear. Sunsets wash the mountains of the Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre with colour and turn terraces and viewpoints into privileged spots to watch the light change at the end of the day.
When night falls and the village lights go out, the stars and constellations emerge with a rare clarity. It is one of those places where you only have to look up to remember the immensity of the sky.
The Gúdar-Javalambre region holds the Destino Turístico Starlight certification, and very close to the house there are spots made for sky-watching, such as the Peirón de San Jorge, a short climb with views. You need not be an expert: just look up.
